Okay...so the other night we took Bens dad and step-mom out for dinner.
After visiting over shrimp and lobster tail (Red Lobster) and enjoying yet another pleasant trip to Wal-Mart, after getting back in the car to come home Steve turned around and handed me this book:

He proceeded to tell me that I needed to read this before we get married, that it was a great book, and he felt I was at the right point in my life to benefit from it. I of course said, "Umm okay." Feeling nervous having received a book titled, "The Love Dare" from my future Father-in-Law, I went home and tossed it on my nightstand.
Well, apparently this book is from the "hit movie" FIREPROOF. (and when I say "hit movie" I mean his ENTIRE family has rant and raved about this movie for MONTHS)
Some of you may have seen or heard of it. I personally haven't watched it yet.
But plan to.
Okay, so back to the book. After watching it sit on my nightstand for two days one evening I picked it up and thought, "What's the harm?" So I read the first "chapter."
The book is a 40 day, Bible influenced, "workbook" featuring a dare you must complete and reflect on each day.
For example:

Seriously, I dare each and every one of you to attempt completing this dare in one day. It's harder than you think. It took me two days just to check off this one.
Instantly I've begun thinking, "Oh my gosh, I can't even get through six hours with my significant other and not say stupid, petty, negative comments."
"How are we gonna get married and make it!?"
(Now to me,) a negative comment includes anything from: Drag down, knock out fights, to simply saying, "Why didn't you take your dishes to the sink?" or "Don't worry, I got it."
Little smart alic comments come out more than you realize.
So the reason for this long post is to promote this awesome book.
I'm on the 6th dare and am challenged daily.
Good Luck to all of you!
Wal-Mart only $12.34!!
Oh ya, I'm making Ben read it after me!!!
I am a fan that you are reading this book. What a clever gift from Steve!?! Thank you for my copy, although I am not going to lie...It is sitting on my coffee table waiting to be opened. I promise to get to it, but it seems that learning about Aphasia, articulation disorders, and brain attacks has once again consumed my life...ugh! Anyways, thank you and great post!
ReplyDelete`I have to admit, my mom taught me that one, It sure helps prevent a lot of fights. It also helps at work to learn to keep your mouth shut and not say thing that are negative.
ReplyDeleteI love that you love that book and that you care for your marriage before it takes shape. Great post.
ReplyDeleteAmazon has recommended this book to me several times and I never really looked into it until your post. It sounds interesting!!! Do you think it works for couples in general? Or just those engaged or already married?
ReplyDelete(lol..no ring. Yet. HA!)
Definately couples in general! The book refers to each other as "spouse" so I technically don't qualify to read it yet. But I just take it out of context and anywhere it says spouse I just think significant other.
ReplyDeleteI highly reccommend this book to you Ash, it's fun and challenging at the same time. You really begin to feel great about yourself and your relationship. I'm only so far into it, but I think it will continue to be great.
